Weland cat ladders are used in construction and industry and are approved in accordance with SS 831340 and SS-EN ISO 14122-4. Permanently installed cat ladders are used to provide access to roofs with up to 8 m difference in levels. The ladders must be installed so the top rung is 30 mm above the edge of the roof.
The handrail should be anchored to a roof gangway/roof ladder. Stop the ladders 3 m above the ground, if you want to prevent unauthorised access. The cat ladders can then be supplemented with a loose ladder and suspension fitting. For long ladders (longer than 10 m), there should be a half-landing, if possible. For a fall height exceeding 4 metres, the ladder must be fitted with fall protection.
Escape ladders should always have a safety cage when they are combined with an escape platform. This is to ensure you do not "step out into open space". The safety cage ends 2-2.5 m above the ground.
Cat ladders with accessories are also stocked in a stainless steel, acid-resistant version.
Lightweight ladder offering good stability. The ladder's stringers are in a roll-formed U-profile. The rungs are profiled to reduce the risk of slipping and are swaged on both the inside and outside for double safety. Version in accordance with SS 83 13 40 and SS-EN ISO 14122-4. |

The handrail is installed to the side of the ladders with or without safety cage. The handrail is folded 100 mm to the side to give more space for passing. Handrails are normally installed one on each side, but in some cases, it may be sufficient on just one side. The handrail can be equipped with anchorage lugs at the top that are used when working on a step plate. The handrail can also be used with an external sleeve for removability, which is useful when the ladder is installed below a hatch. |

Two step plates for cat ladders. Both of them are folding. They can be used when an intermediate landing is needed at the middle of the cat ladder to make standing more comfortable. This could be a service point or at the middle of a long section of cat ladders. The plate is normally folded up behind the rungs and it is easily pulled out with the foot. The step plate is available for the whole of the ladder's width or split up so it can be used with vertical fall protection railing/safety wire. The single step plate is mounted using 2x M10x20 + locking nuts. The double plate is sold as a complete set with all necessary fastening material. |

Sometimes, a freestanding cat ladder is needed between floor and mezzanine, where the height exceeds 2.5 m. It may be necessary to get past glass partitions or other constructions where there are no possibilities for attachment. As a supplier of cat ladders for many years, Weland Stål has come across this problem every now and again and has developed a standard solution. We call it a stiffening rail and, with it installed on the side of the ladder, the separation between the fixing points can be stretched up to 5.7 m. The stiffening rail is a bent section with a length of 1200 mm, which hook into each other and bolt to the side of the ladder. With an ingenious hook at the end of the section, we can construct a strong support profile using short sections. With a stiffening rail installed, the max. separation is 5.7 m compared to the standard 2.5 m. The rail can be used together with other accessories such as safety cage, standing platform, handrail, etc. |

In order to improve safety, ladders that are longer than 6 metres should be supplied with an intermediate landing/load distribution beam. On very long ladders, the distance between the intermediate landings should not exceed 6 metres. Version in accordance with SS 83 13 40. Intermediate landings comprise the following components:
NOTE! Each intermediate landing requires 2.1 m extra ladder. |

Weland Stål has developed a solution for those who need to get down but don't want to let others get up. We call it the Drop Down Ladder; this is a permanent cat ladder installed on the wall that is supplemented with an extra ladder, slide fitting and locking device. With our solution, you can let the permanent ladder finish a good way up the wall and, even so, have access to an evacuation ladder that reaches all the way to the ground. On evacuation, you climb down the ladder, kick the locking device, on which the loose ladder comes loose and slides down to the ground. Thereafter, just continue on down to the ground. See how it works in our video or take a look at the assembly instruction MA1607. |
